Canadian Citizenship
To become a Canadian Citizen, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Canadian Permanent Resident.
- Have been physically present in Canada as a Permanent Resident for at least 1,095 days out of the five years before you apply.
- Meet your personal income tax filing obligations.
- Meet minimum language requirements in English or French.
- Take a test to meet the knowledge requirement for citizenship.
- Meet other requirements.
Citizenship Certificate
This application is for Canadian citizens who want to apply for a citizenship certificate. Citizenship certificates are proof of Canadian citizenship.
A citizenship certificate is a document that proves your Canadian citizenship.
You can use it to access various services and benefits, such as a pension, or apply for a passport.
The certificate is not a travel document.
If you’re travelling abroad, you must have a valid passport or travel document.
